Summary

The interest in switching from fossil fuels to a broad variety of climate-neutral alternatives is growing in the large engine industries. Yet, the redundancy of running engines on conventional fuels is highly valued, especially in marine applications. In this publication feasible dual-fuel combustion concepts and expected applications for alternative fuels such as hydrogen, ammonia, and methanol are outlined. Their advantages and challenges are described based on test results measured on a single-cylinder engine.
