Summary
The flagship model of the BMW lineup, the new 7 Series, is again powered by a 12-cylinder gasoline engine. Development work on this engine focused on the current requirements with regard to fuel consumption and lower emissions, while at the same time retaining the unique smooth characteristics of the predecessor engine, and offering significantly higher power and torque figures. This presentation describes the conception and structural design, as well as the functional properties, of this new 12-cylinder gasoline engine. A further increase in dynamics, coupled with reduced fuel consumption and outstanding ride comfort, firmly establishes this engine in the top position of the BMW Efficient Dynamics program.
