Summary
Analysing the envisaged future technology routes in the various regions, besides a strong global trend towards BEV, significant differences regarding long term acceptance of ICE can be expected. Whereas Europe is still fixed on a politically driven dogmatic “BEV only” approach, China and Japan follow a technology open, pragmatic and fact based legislation. Especially the Japanese “Well to Wheel” legislation must be considered as benchmark for providing a most cost effective CO2 reduction. In Europe, however, where in theory the “Green Deal” would be a comprehensive basis for limiting global warming, in reality, a highly dogmatic hostile position against ICE is compromising the finding of cost optimum solutions.
