Summary
Recent trends in Engine and Transmission Development as well as in Legislation are challenging the Vehicle Engineers to find ideal Powertrain Configurations. This Presentation is focused on the Evaluation of existing and upcoming Technologies and identifies Synergies from a Powertrain rather than Engine or Transmission Perspective only. Requirements are shown in both Directions Engine -> Transmission and Transmission -> Engine to optimize the most important Vehicle Attributes: Fuel Economy, Performance and Emissions that are partially contradicting Targets. Especially the Combination with Dual Clutch Transmissions offers great Potential for almost all Vehicle Segments. Finally a Future Perspective towards Hybrids in various Configurations of Torque Split instead of the current Power Split Architecture is discussed.
