Summary

Climate change is accelerating due to large amounts of greenhouse gases (GHGs) emitted into the atmosphere. Its impact, such as more frequent and stronger hurricanes, droughts, heat waves, floods, and rising sea levels are already being felt and is a serious challenge that needs to be tackled for a sustainable future.
In the EU, the transportation sector accounts for more than a quarter of all GHGs emissions with road transportation being the largest contributor thereof. To curb this, the framework of the European Green Deal aims to reduce these emissions by an impressive 90% until 2050. Meeting these ambitious goals will require the full consideration and involvement of all stakeholders along the transportation value chain.
BASF is investing heavily in the production of Cathode Active Materials (CAM) locally in Europe that go into batteries for electric vehicles (EV) with the aim of offering crucial value propositions to address these sustainability challenges. BASF aims to offer best-in-class carbon footprint, which is significantly lower than most market peers and will help considerably reducing the CAM related CO2 burden to the electrification of vehicles. In combination with a strong recycling footprint, sustainable metal sourcing and a reliable supply chain BASF becomes a key partner for a sustainable European battery value chain, supporting our regional and global customers to transform European electric mobility.
Together, we can build a sustainable future for the next generation and the transition towards low- and zero emission vehicles will be a key pillar to get us there.
