Summary

Mazda has announced its endeavour to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050. On the basis of its brand strategy, the company has also been continuing on its ceaseless quest to develop the ideal powertrain and introduced SKYACTIV TECHNOLOGY such as SKYACTIV-X, which offer both driving pleasure and outstanding environmental and safety performance.

To realize carbon neutrality, Mazda will pursue a Multi-Solution approach believing that it is a right strategy to offer multiple solutions from EVs and PHEVs to vehicles powered by energy-efficient ICEs considering the power generation mix of each region.

The powertrains developed according to this approach include in-line six-cylinder SKYACTIV-D and SKYACTIV-G/X, four-cylinder SKYACTIV-G, PHEV and MILD HEV 48V equipped with a highly efficient 8-speed AT without torque converter. By combining them as modules and constantly applying latest technologies such as model-based development, AI and advanced control technologies, the company has made a skeleton that allows its cars to provide high performance, high efficiency, low emissions or electrification according to the need of each region.

In the years ahead, Mazda aims to utilize and further evolve these hardware assets so that CO2 emissions can be reduced through drastic energy saving, then the use of carbon-neutral fuels will be ensured, and eventually ICE vehicles will coexist with EVs. By doing so, Mazda will contribute continuously to the global CO2 reduction and carbon neutrality using in-line modular concept of SKYACTIV powertrain and pursue the possibility of lower-emission and negative-emission vehicles.
