Summary
The increasing mobility demand is deteriorating the quality of life for inhabitants in metropolitan areas around the world and makes new means of transportation desirable. While a broader application of helicopter based air taxi services is limited, new eVTOL aircraft concepts promise significant advantages in safety, noise and costs, leading to a high expected market growth.
The eVTOL industry is still at a nascent stage. Embracing new (electric) propulsion technologies into the aviation industry means the cards are being reshuffled for manufacturers and suppliers. Automotive players have the opportunity to enter this new market by leveraging their automotive strengths and capabilities. This could further decrease the costs for Urban Air Mobility (UAM) and thus enabling more people to utilize this new mode of transportation and safe valuable time.
