Race of Jurisdictions – Update on the Legal Framework for Automated Driving
Authors
Dr. Volker Hartmann, Autonomous Intelligent Driving GmbH, Munich
Summary
This Article outlines the current status of legal frameworks in the US, EU and China, regarding Automated Driving. Content-wise the focus lies on questions connected to Vehicle Certification Law and Road Traffic Law, since these fields appear to be in need of change because the current law does not reflect and address the emerging new technology. The Author shows that legal frameworks per se play a critical role in bringing the technology to the markets. Legal can act as a constraint or as a booster, depending on how policy makers adjust certain legal mechanisms in the field of Automated Driving.
