Summary

Comprehensive and efficient thermal management is a main field of optimization for battery electric vehicles. Today’s applications are still characterized by significant range losses in field at low ambient temperatures. Besides the operating efficiency of the high voltage traction motor, battery, and the gearbox of the E-Drive the energy demand for cabin climatization is a significant factor not respected in current homologation cycles. Efficient thermal management can provide range gains at the same level of comfort.

In addition, future requirements such as fast charging need high performance thermal management systems to ensure ideal temperature levels of the individual heat sources and sinks in BEV powertrains. With platform strategies becoming more and more popular, the integration and modularization of complex systems in the vehicle gets much more relevant.
