Summary

For pleasure boat application a totally new family of diesel engines was developed, featuring extraordinary high power density, fully electronically controlled common rail injection system, four valve technology and very favourable power to weight ratio. In order to cope for the high peak firing pressures of more than 200 bar most modern simulation tools had been employed to make full utilization of the materials and simultaneously assure the required reliability and durability. It might have been the first time when developing engines of this kind to make use of the know-how and broad expertise in engine development of an engineering company – AVL – to a great extent. The cooperation between the development partners took place from the very concept up to release for series production.
