Summary
With its newly developed 6.0-litre V12 TDI engine, Audi has presented the world’s most powerful and torquey passenger car diesel engine.
Based on state-of-the-art diesel technologies, a power output of 500 bhp (368 kW) and a maximum 1000 Nm of torque has been produced. In combination with a diesel particulate filter, the Audi Q7 conforms to the EU 5 emissions standard. And its fuel consumption of just 11.9 litres per 100 km in the MVEG test is extremely low for an SUV offering this level of performance. The engine runs outstandingly smoothly, as is to be expected from a typical 12-cylinder unit.
Though the engine incorporates a number of design features specific to 12-cylinder power units, including a 60° cylinder angle, it also exploits many synergies with the familiar Audi V6 and V8 TDI engines. It rounds off the top end of the Audi range of V-configuration engines.
