Summary
Due to the consequent electrification of vehicle fleets in the realm of automobile manufacturers, new fields of action in the orientation of the manufacturers arise. Through the pursuit of greatest possible synergies combined with the fulfilling of additional requirements, car manufacturers – especially their development departments – are forced to break new ground.
In this manuscript we will elaborate on the example of Volkswagen which development goals are central for the transformation of a major automobile corporation. Looking specifically at the development of power electronics, we showcase how Volkswagen breaks apart the inverter, specifies the most important subcomponents and hence lays the foundation for further integration of functions.
