Summary

Hyundai Motor Company (HMC) is developing several types of 4WS (Four-Wheel Steering) corner modules. In this paper, we will first introduce a 4WS corner module, which has a similar type as a robust conventional suspension. Then we will present the results of a research based on a 4WS vehicle with focus on occupant-oriented driving modes.

The presented 4WS corner module is a robust concept design, which applies a steering actuator on top of a Revo Knuckles based conventional MacPherson strut suspension. Therefore, the concept design allows us to enhance K&C performance. We also designed the lower control arm to meet durability requirements together according to HMC robust concept design.
