Summary

Test equipment is generally located in laboratory because of their weight/size and their environment requirements (security, power, network, sub equipment, etc.). For those reasons it is difficult to have access to the testing equipment for Electronic Control Unit (ECU) testing (e.g. functional test before the release of ECU software) by software developers. The purpose of this project is to give remote access to the test equipment and allow the SW developers to do his development/validation work from a distant office. The Remote Test Automation System (RTAS) contains a PC, a custom designed electronic control card for remote access and a standalone software which was developed by C# language to establish connection between developer’s PC and test bench. The hardware provides connection between the PC of RTAS and test bench. There are host and client applications for communication. The host application runs on PC of RTAS. The client application runs on developer’s PC without other software installation to reach test equipment. RTAS can be used to connect to any test bench which has digital I/O ports. The outcome of the entire system is to reach test equipment via intranet/internet from developer’s PC. The benefits of this project are time efficiency, remote access and test automation.
