Summary
This article describes the opportunities opened up for the powertrain by the 48-Volt vehicle electrical system. As an initial step, motivation for a higher voltage in the vehicle’s electrical system is defined, after which the layout and components of a dual-voltage system are explained. The central focus of this article, as well as outlining the advantages of electrification in tandem with the internal combustion engine and the opportunity to adopt an electric bi-turbo concept, describes the Audi iHEV 48V mild hybrid concept, which is based on a dual-voltage vehicle electrical system and makes maximum use of the advantages it offers for the powertrain. To make the picture more complete, the benefits of the dual-voltage electrical system for the vehicle as a whole are then discussed.
Lectures from the International Vienna Motor Symposium can be ordered from the Austrian Society of Automotive Engineers (ÖVK). Lectures can only be purchased in the form of the complete conference documents, individual lectures are not available.
When placing an order, please note the year/name of the event (e.g. "45th International Vienna Motor Symposium 2024") for the further ordering process.
Members of the Austrian Society of Automotive Engineers have access to all lectures of the International Vienna Motor Symposia.
