Summary
Hardly any other engine concept is as closely associated with the vehicle as that of the Porsche flat-six engine with the Porsche 911 - both are celebrating their 60th anniversary this year. Innovations such as variable intake systems, variable camshaft adjustment, intake valve lift switching, turbocharging - also with variable turbine geometry, crankcase with Fe-coated liners, as well as high-revving concepts have contributed that the history of the Porsche flat-six engine has been successfully continued again and again. The latest revision with piezo direct injection proves that this engine concept can be successfully adapted to changing requirements and that the advantages of the concept can be further exploited. Continuing this success story is one of the challenges of the future, especially in the face of CO2 targets and requirements for exhaust gas cleaning.
