Summary

State-of-the-art DC link (DCL) capacitors are essential components of modern traction drive inverters for AC motor vehicle propulsion applications. The NanoLam™ technology uses an in-situ production process that leverages the use of submicron thermoset systems. This material offers advantages in relative permittivity, breakdown voltage, temperature authority and self-healing properties. Further benefits are associated to the less constraining production process, to a high package utilization and to efficient cooling interfaces. Overall, the favourable electrical and thermal properties enable a high energy density [1, 2].
