Summary

Individual mobility is a basic need of people. The automotive industry works on satisfying this need – under the boundary of the legislative environment, e.g. CO2 emission. Europe set a clear path for BEV. Unfortunately end consumers did not fully follow that path. Sales of BEV vehicles are far behind expectations – and far behind the needs for CO2 reduction. In China a technology came up that was in view already 15 years ago – Range Extenders. Range extender vehicles are seen as New Energy Vehicles (NEV) in China. Thus, they are treated legally equal to BEVs. In Europe this is not the case, but with sufficient e-drive range even in Europe Range Extenders can contribute to CO2 reduction.
