Markets, Technology, Energy Resources – Long-Term Drivetrain Scenarios

Authors

Christoph Stürmer, IHS Automotive

Year

2011

Summary

In the framework of a long-term scenario study, IHS has outlined three development paths of future drivetrain technologies in the interaction with client and regulatory requirements, technological developments, and available energy sources. The results show that in all cases, by the year 2030 a significant increase of drivetrain diversity is to be expected, but also regional differentiation will increase. In addition, the mix of energy sources will diversify further. In all scenarios it becomes evident that significant structural changes can only be expected with the introduction of second-generation technologies, from 2020 onwards.
