Summary

Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) has expanded its low-carbon, lightweight, Ingenium engine family with the introduction of an all-new 4-cylinder Gasoline engine, first anounced in 2016. The introduction of the gasoline engine builds on the success of the Ingenium Diesel engine introduced in 2015. This paper will introduce the engine architecture and attributes and explains how the Ingenium gasoline engine will meet future legislative emissions and CO2 challenges, whilst delivering competitive engine performance and premium refinement. The engine contains an all new combustion system and a range of technology to deliver competitive performance, fuel economy and transient response. Key to this is the introduction of a fully variable electro-hydraulic valve train, reduced parasitic losses and a range of thermal management measures to deliver fast engine warm up and low CO2. There are two versions of the Ingenium SI engine; a 250 PS and a 300 PS variant. They cover a wide range of North-South and East-West applications in Jaguar and Land Rover products and deliver excellent drivability with exceptional on-road and off-road performances. The gasoline engine utilises a common architecture with the Ingenium Diesel engine to facilitate shared UK manufacturing facilities and gasoline specific manufacturing in China.
