Summary
Homogeneous charge compression ignition promises excellent efficiency and low NOx- and particulate - emissions for both, SI and diesel engines. So, this combustion concept can contribute to achieve the expected emission- and CO2-legislation. In this paper it will be described, which analytical tools are used at Robert Bosch GmbH to analyze and optimize these conforming combustion concepts. First, a split of losses that can be applied to all different combustion concepts is shown. Using this, the different combustions concepts are analyzed, compared and judged. Differences and future challenges are derived. Second, controlled auto ignition and homogeneous combustion are analyzed, using reduced reaction kinetics. Influence of Injection timing on self ignition timing is shown.
