Summary

Unlike cars, commercial vehicles (trucks and buses) are CAPEX driven investments for the operators. They are specifically adapted to their application. The requirements for the vehicle differ accordingly. For example, in addition to a high payload or high usable volume, long-distance vehicles specifically require a long range, while urban distribution vehicles require high maneuverability. Specialized vehicles such as garbage trucks, suction excavators, or woodchoppers also require capable power-take-offs. Adapting vehicles to the specific application allows the owner to operate cost-effectively; therefore, the total cost of ownership (TCO) is the key metric for most commercial vehicles.
