Summary
Nearly all car manufacturers are preparing strategies for the market launch of hybrid vehicles. Most of them intent to introduce hybrid vehicles onto the market by offering a hybrid powertrain as an option for conventional production vehicles. For this, it is necessary to install the hybrid system into the housing between engine and transmission in addition to the conventional powertrain components. To solve this packaging challenge electric drives are requested with optimized power densities which are specially designed for powertrain integration. Furthermore, a prerequisiteto fulfil the packaging specifications is the integration of the electric drives with specifically adapted powertrain components resulting in compact modules. An integration concept is described for the application of a hybrid system in a powertrain with an automated manual transmission.
