Summary
E-fuels are the fuel of the future. They are chemically identical to conventional fuels such as gasoline, methanol or kerosene. This means they can be used in engines that exist today and can be stored, transported and sold using standard methods, such as the existing network of filling stations. Their applications and uses are as diverse as they already are - whether as marine propulsion, in aviation, or in any other engine-powered equipment used in forestry, agriculture, or construction. Thus, E-fuels have the potential to become the zero-emissions engine for world trade, maintaining global supply chains, feeding the world, and construction.
Mass production and widespread availability of E-fuels will begin in 2026. HIF Global has already begun production. The "Haru Oni" demonstration plant in southern Chile will produce E-fuels in December 2022. HIF Global plans a capital investment of approximately $50 billion to develop, build and operate plants around the world that will produce approximately 150,000 barrels of E-fuels per day, decarbonizing more than 5 million vehicles.
