Summary

Achieving net zero emissions is crucial to limit global warming and reduce the impacts of climate change. According to a study by the European Environment Agency (EEA), Transport is the only sector to have increased its greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in the European Union (EU27) relative to 1990 levels. In 2020 the Transport sector was only second to Energy Industries in terms of total GHG emissions of which 76.7% were Road Transportation. Light vehicles account for over 70% of these emissions hence automotive plays a crucial role in achieving overall net zero emission targets.
