Summary
Diesel vehicles have a big challenge about tail pipe emissions in real world driving. Especially in cold start and low speed conditions, NOₓ cannot be purified because of insufficient exhaust gas temperature for catalysts activation. In this paper, effect of ozone was studied for the NOₓ reduction. Ozone can oxidize NO into NO₂ in very low temperature and promote NOₓ absorption in catalysts. Here, it was clarified that ozone could improve NOₓ absorption catalyst performance significantly by changing catalyst surface condition. The result shows increase of NOₓ absorption ratio and capacity also, and absorbed NOₓ was desorbed in higher temperature compared with without ozone. Besides, enough performance is verified with vehicle in a severe traffic congestion
mode using developing ozone generation system.
