Summary

The paper describes the results achieved in the development of a new piston bowl specifically designed for high-efficiency Heavy-Duty (HD) engines for Long-Haul vehicle applications fueled with Natural Gas (NG). The development activity, as part of a main project dedicated to the design of a new generation of HD gas engines, stemmed from the need to improve the thermodynamic efficiency in these engines, which is closely linked to the charge combustion speed and, consequently, to the turbulence induced by the engine geometry.
