Summary

The fulfilment of the significantly reduced US Tier 2 Bin 5 emission limits for passenger cars at the end of this decade without significantly increasing cost and CO2 emissions has to be seen as a major challenge for the next development period. Generally the particular technology elements enabling to achieve this stringent target on both sides, i.e. on those of the engine as well as aftertreatment systems, are available. However, the combination of these elements enabling to meet the customer’s needs and expectations as far as possible will be the pre-requisite for future business success.
