Chinese EV players in Europe: Quo vadis?

Summary
Having achieved rapid growth in the Chinese domestic BEV market and developed strong expertise in the field, a significant number of Chinese OEMs are now seeking to enter the European market. One clear sign: A German car rental company is buying 100,000 EVs from BYD. Other manufacturer, but not the only ones, are Nio, XPeng, Great Wall Motors, Hongqi, and BAIC, sometimes striving with more than one brand into Europe.
Compared to previous attempts, this time the vehicles come with five-star European New Car Assessment Program (NCAP) ratings, high-tech features, and lower costs based on scaling effects from their domestic market.
