Summary

Two and a half years after the release of the first four valve 100kW TDI engine with Unit Injectors, now an increased power version delivering 125 kW is ready. The new four cylinder 2 litre capacity contains the new Piezo Unit Injector high pressure system, a balance shaft and also a servicefree Diesel Particulate Filter. The new Piezo Unit Injectors allow injection pressures up to 2200 bar, giving an increase in power but at the same time reducing the emissions. Further to this, the specific fuel consumption has been reduced due the improved efficiency of the injection system. Using the Piezo technology a noticeable reduction in the idle noise has been achieved. Many new features are included in this engine, for example a modified camshaft drive, new ceramic heater plugs and an improved oil blowby system, that reduces oil consumption and improves the exhaust gas quality. The first cars to be equipped with this engine will be the Passat followed by the Golf platform; these are lateral installations, following later the longitudinal installations for the Audi models of the B class. With a specific power output of 63.5 kW/l this TDI is at the top of the competition. Due to the excellent power and torque characters of this engine, the customer is given improved driveability with reduced fuel consumption, also very low emissions combined with improved noise and vibration levels
