Summary
Grammer AG supplies vehicle interiors for a global market with highly diverse user group requirements. For a needs and functions based product development, the areas ergonomics, usability and design are key, which are addressed with internal capabilities and external research and development partners. An impulse for a new product can originate from any of the three involved areas: Design idea, user need or ergonomic optimization. Defined test procedures and committee decisions and approvals are central parts of the development process for validating new products. Respective suitable collectives and rating criteria are determined by product maturity, project phase and focal points for evaluation. This paper discusses examples on how the areas ergonomics, usability and design collaborate in the development process, and how innovations are verified.
