Summary

Evaluation of tire characteristics has become more important in recent years and more detailed understanding can lead to improvements in the tire development process. Since tires provide the only contact between vehicle and ground, they have a strong influence on vehicle dynamics. Appropriate measuring and data analysis techniques are required to obtain relevant information from vehicle tests. This paper presents a method to investigate longitudinal tire characteristics and the effects of important influencing factors. By using a model-based approach, data from vehicle tests can be integrated into a simulation environment and analyzed. Additionally, novel sensor methods are used to investigate dynamic tire and axle properties.
