Thermal Simulation of a Quick-Change Battery System

Summary

Suspect of the project AccuSwap (working title PowerSwap) which is supported by the Federal Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Action is the development of a quick-change battery for light commercial vehicles. One major aspect is the thermal conditioning without the aid of an external cooling cycle to reduce the number of mandatory interfaces. Therefore, models to simulate the development of temperature during load cycles are generated. Important battery parameters needed for these simulations are determined iteratively by calculations and measurements on a test battery. The models simulate the anisotropic heat transfer from the center to the housing as well as free convection. Different assembly variants to help achieving a homogenous temperature level are analyzed by FEM calculations.
