Summary
In order to show the effect of lap time optimization on the handling of the vehicle, a vehicle is optimized in terms of lap time for different tracks. The handling characteristics of the thus optimized vehicle are evaluated on the basis of objective criteria and compared to reference results. This comparison shows that a one-criteria optimization of the lap time leads to an influence on the handling characteristics. A subsequent manual optimization of the handling properties results in a deterioration of the lap time of the individual vehicle configurations. Due to the mutual negative and high percentage influence of the target functions, the implementation of a simultaneous optimization process for the target functions lap time and handling behavior is reasonable. A sequential optimization of the two target criteria or a one-criterion optimization of the lap time followed by a handling evaluation can be sufficient, depending on which vehicle parameters and their variation range make up the search space of the optimization.
