Summary
What started exactly 25 years ago with a short one day symposium in the Oesterreichischer Ingenieur- und Architekten-Verein and continued later in the castle of Laxenburg, before it was 1991 finally situated here in this wonderful rooms in the center of Vienna, in the meantime it is the most attractive Motorensymposium in the world. Almost overbooked before the official invitations are sent out, the Vienna Motorensymposium is a highly appreciated meeting point for engine and transmission experts from around the world. Presentations, presenters, spousal programs and cultural events are of the highest levels and guarantee the ongoing success of this event. There is no doubt we have to thank Prof. Lenz, his wife and the whole team for their outstanding job. We all hope that you, Prof. Lenz, will be willing to work in the same manner for many more years. So let’s give Prof. Lenz a round of applause. I say that in English, because Prof. Lenz always makes a special effort to ensure this event is as international and global as possible. There is no doubt that Prof. Lenz, like he has done for 25 years now, will say tomorrow exactly at 17:30 at the end: “my special thanks are going to the presenters, the people which participated in the discussions, and everybody who contributed to the success of the 25. Vienna Motorensymposium”. My plenary presentation of today refers exactly to the presenters or the technical input of their papers. Did it really happen the way they told us, will it happen, or did the opposite happen? Since there are exactly 692 papers, I only can mention the most interesting technical trends. I will try not to refer to names or companies, but perhaps by your own interpretation, you will find out which person or company was mentioned. Nevertheless, my congratulations go to all of the presenters, irrespective of how history has treated their claims. You, three and a half ladies and you 688 and a half gentlemen had the courage to make those claims.
