Summary
In this paper a newly developed catalyst heating system is described. This system can be combined with any kind of catalytic substrate: ceramic and metallic catalyst as well as filters. Simulations at system and component level are presented, as well as test results on component bench, engine bench and vehicle. The requirements for the different applications are discussed using parametric studies and results. For Gasoline engine the light-off of the Three Way Catalyst (TWC) is key to ensure system performance, requiring a quick and powerful heating. For Diesel engines a longer system operation can be required to maintain the temperature of the whole aftertreatment system. Finally, perspectives are given for future applications.
