Summary
With its 250-year history the MAN Group has one of the longest traditions among Germany's leading companies, and its past and present innovations make it an important part of industrial history. In the recent past in particular there have been major changes both in the Group's structure and in its strategic alignment. This manuscript sketches this development in the company using the example of the two business areas Diesel and Turbo. In both these areas the shift in market demands was recognised. Whereas only a few years ago MAN Diesel was offering its customers exclusively diesel engines and associated components, today the company sees itself as a supplier of complex systems. In the Marine sector complete propulsion systems including exhaust-gas cleaning are now part of the core competence. In the Power sector turnkey power-plant projects and operation + maintenance contracts led to significant increases in turnover and are helping the company to weather the present economic crisis better and make itself competitive for the future...
