Summary

Tyre characteristics depend in a complex manner on a variety of parameters. A precise prediction of any possible behaviour is not possible without exact knowledge of individual material characteristics and their interaction within the tyre itself. For this reason, numerous tyre test benches have been developed and set up to quickly measure tyres' responses to different inputs.

A combination of laboratory test benches where boundary conditions can be very well controlled and the measurements can be carried out reproducibly at any time, and mobile tyre test benches, which can test the tyres on real road surfaces, utilizes both advantages and helps to get a better understanding of the tyre mechanics. This understanding can be used to improve identified weaknesses of currently existing testing or simulation approaches.
