Summary
The Mercedes SLS AMG, launched in March 2010, is based on a fully-independent sports car platform that was designed without compromise for maximum driving dynamics. A new power train concept was devised specifically for this vehicle and comprises three main components: the 6.2-litre V8 engine, borrowed from previous AMG model series and reworked from the ground up, a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission, and a torque tube with carbon-fibre drive shaft, which provides for a very rigid connection between the engine and transmission (transaxle system).
