Summary

New electric vehicles from Volkswagen use a specially developed vehicle platform, the modular electric drive matrix (MEB). The first electric vehicle developed based on this platform, the ID.3, was already launched to the market in mid-2020. With the market launch of the ID.4 at the end of 2020, Volkswagen's electric offensive will be continued consistently. This is the next of a total of 27 MEB vehicles that will be produced worldwide by various group brands from the end of 2022 to establish emission-free mobility. The all-wheel drivetrain of the ID.4 is presented in detail in this paper. In addition to the main drive with a 150 kW electric machine on the rear axle, known from the ID.3, the front axle in the ID.4 is now also electrified. A newly developed drive with a 75 kW electric machine is used for this purpose. The total power of up to 225 kW distributed across both axles provides an impressive all-wheel driving experience.
