Summary

The future emission limit values for engines in the power range above 560 KW in off-highway applications cannot be achieved only by the introduction off so far common technologies. Depending upon application of the engines different limit values will apply. The technology used for applications will in the future differ accordingly to that. Cooled recycling of exhaust gases, high injection pressure and pulsed injection are the most important internal-motor measures for the reduction of the emissions. Also the turbo-charging concepts become clearly more complex due to the risen requirements. Thus single-step turbo-charging will not any longer be sufficient for vehicles with large requirements to the operating altitude in combination with high egr-rates and additional pressure loss in the exhaust pipe by exhaust treatment components. Particle filters become at the latest 2015 necessary for all off-highway engines in the power range above 560 KW. In the application of generators also the catalytic NOx reduction becomes necessary starting from 2010 or 2015.
