Summary
In this paper, in addition to the changing political factors, which can be seen, among other things, in a tightening of the CO2 limits for commercial vehicles and passenger cars worldwide, the investment volume and the costs of infrastructure development for hydrogenpowered and purely battery-powered vehicles are described. This is done to further examine the "hydrogen engine" itself as well as the respective "injection strategy". The paper also addresses the question which of the alternative drive technologies – declared as "zeroemission" by EU regulations – are suitable for which areas of application. To answer this question, the authors compare two injection strategies - port fuel injection (PFI) and direct injection (DI) - and explain in detail the advantages and disadvantages based on the most practical application areas for each technology.
