Summary

Besides increasing the driving safety, vehicle dynamics systems have a positive influence on the driving comfort and the driving pleasure, thereby defining the vehicle behavior. The effort and time needed for the function development and tuning increase with the number and the integration complexity of the active systems.

This paper presents a unified, efficient and transparent method for implementing lateral target chassis characteristics by vehicle dynamics control systems using central software components. The concept has been developed by Audi AG in cooperation with fka mbH in Aachen. It considers chassis systems with permanent influence on the vehicle lateral dynamics such as active front and rear steering, torque vectoring or anti roll stabilization.
