Summary

The general commitment of the mobility sector to achieving the climate targets remains unchanged. In this context, it is essential to continue to systematically drive forward the electrification of the powertrain, which will lead to a profound transformation process. This process must be shaped in an innovative, agile and efficient way: Companies need to understand trends, develop scenarios as well as build and implement a transformation strategy. Schaeffler forecasts a global share of 70 % electrified powertrains in new vehicles for 2030: 30 % purely electric and 40 % as hybrids. By 2035, the share of purely electric vehicles will continue to rise globally towards 50 %. This scenario requires the consistent expansion of electromobility, also taking hybrid technology into account. Schaeffler offers solutions for every level of electrification and is characterized by innovative strength and system expertise for the entire powertrain: From products on component and module level, e. g. actuator modules or components for e-motors, to highly innovative system solutions for electric and hybrid drives, e. g. 3in1 e-axles or dedicated hybrid transmissions. This means that it is possible to respond to every requirement with customer-specific solutions. However, the climate targets cannot be achieved by Tank-to-Wheel measures alone. The increase in the share of renewably generated energy that is necessary for a sustainable reduction in CO2 emissions will require alternative energy carriers. Hydrogen technology will play a central role at this point. As a global automotive and industrial supplier, Schaeffler considers the entire hydrogen energy chain and will make a significant contribution to the successful establishment of the hydrogen technology with innovative components and systems for fuel cells and electrolyzers.
