Summary
In order to achieve the goal of "carbon peak and carbon neutrality" and reduce dependence on fossil fuels, vehicle electrification is going to be the mainstream of the automotive industry. In recent years, battery technology has made great progress, and the market share of electric vehicles has increased significantly, but in the foreseeable future, the mileage anxiety of pure electric vehicles will continue to exist. It is an ideal solution to put a small range extender on the electric vehicle to increase the electric vehicle range, maintaining the driving experience of the electric vehicle as much as possible, and minimizing the modification to the entire vehicle architecture. A two-cylinder two-stroke engine is a good candidate for this application. In Geely, a reverse- scavenged two-stroke engine is developed. The engine adopted the wetted oil pan lubrication concept similar to that of a typical four-stroke engine. Water cooling system is used to ensure engine durability. Only a conventional 3-way catalyst is needed to meet emission targets because the combustion is stoichiometric. The current version of the 0.8L engine achieved 36% effective thermal efficiency, and maximum output power of 43kw@3000rpm. The engine can be used in a compact range extender for passenger vehicles, commercial vehicles, and off-road applications. Due to its low peak pressure. this engine is especially suitable for hydrogen fuel.
