Summary
This paper is focussed on a novel Dedicated Hybrid Transmission (MAGSPLIT®) that has been designed for a c-segment passenger vehicle. The MAGSPLIT system is based on a dual rotor electrical machine using magnetic gear technology which allows the transmission to be reduced to its simplest form. Specific control features of the transmission are discussed that show the ease with which the MAGSPLIT system can be controlled with standard motor controller equipment, and how this can give unparalleled mode transition quality. The discussion is supported with high fidelity waveforms from testing performed on an engine and transmission dynamometer, complete
with torque measurements taken at several locations within the transmission, allowing for a complete power flow analysis.
