Summary
The new Audi A4 Avant 2.0l g-tron and the Audi A5 Sportback 2.0l g-tron are the first CNG (compressed natural gas) models within Audi’s longitudinally mounted engine platform. The two models are key elements of the Audi powertrain strategy on the way to achieving the zero-emission vision. With a nominal power output of 125 kW (170 hp), maximum torque of 270 Nm and a 500 km range in CNG mode, the Audi A4 g-tron sets new standards in terms of the efficient sportiness and everyday practicality of CNG-powered vehicles. In 2015 Audi marked a new milestone in its successful TFSI technology by launching the 2.0l TFSI, featuring innovative rightsizing. With the new 2.0l g-tron, Audi has developed the engine further to run on CNG. As a result, the compression ratio has been increased to 12.6:1. Additional adaptations of the basic engine and the fuel injection components were also necessary in order to achieve practical feasibility for CNG running. Enhanced by the concerted use of the climate-friendly synthetic e-fuels, in this case the Audi e-gas, and the fuel supply chain balanced with it in real terms, the Audi A4 2.0l g-tron represents a highly attractive customer offering which promises outstanding and sustained levels of CO2 efficiency. The engine and the complete powertrain of the Audi A4 2.0l g-tron are thus making an enduring contribution to the mobility of the future, and as such are elements of – and drivers of – the shift to renewable energy in the transport sector.
