Summary
Audi and Porsche have developed the Premium Platform Electric (PPE) on which the electric vehicles (B- to D-Segment) of both brands will be launched to the market starting this year. The platform was developed and industrialized in a joint cross-company organization and using the full expertise of both brands. The technical basis of the platform is a newly developed drive portfolio consisting of high-voltage batteries and electric drives. The technical content and functional performance of the powertrains are benchmarks in the competitive environment and will be presented in this paper. In order to meet the requirements of electric premium vehicles in the second half of the 2020s, the current technologies of high-voltage batteries and electric drives have been significantly further developed. The main focus was on a scalable electric modular drive-system with optimal acoustics, high integration, efficiency and power density. In this way, it was possible to develop an overall optimum for a platform with a wide range of requirements, taking into account weight, consumption and performance variance. Due to the use of the most modern materials in cell chemistry, the high-voltage (HV) batteries provide a notable improvement compared to previous HV battery systems in terms of fast-charging performance, energy density and weight reduction. The combination of high energy density and optimized costs sets a new benchmark and meets the platform’s premium claim.
