Summary

Climate change, dwindling resources as well as the current crisis in the automotive industry offer the challenge and at the same time the chance to answer to the changed needs and stricter environmental requirements by innovative and sustainable developments. One essential factor for future vehicles will be the overall amount of energy a vehicle requires. To calculate this cumulative energy demand, well-to-wheel studies are not sufficient. The entire life cycle needs to be taken into consideration.
