Summary

The increasing environmental impact of greenhouse gases and pollutant emissions is to be countered by further tightening of emission standards. These are currently being discussed by legislators around the globe and in particular in the global industrial regions. The responsible authorities in the EU, the US and CN have already proposed standards that envisage significantly reduced CO2 levels for the long-haul transport sector towards the middle and end of this decade. New, highly sustainable transport and mobility concepts are being introduced to the market and will grow over the next few years in volume. In parallel, further optimizations of current vehicles, including their powertrains, is needed to comply with these targets.
